Tampa, Fla. (The Weekly Vice) - Kenneth Haskins, a 58-year-old Florida man, has been jailed after he allegedly set fire to an apartment complex after property managers asked him to stop masturbating within view of other residents.
According to police, an investigation was launched after fire crews were dispatched to the Mar Plaza apartment complex on East Temple Heights Road to extinguish a blaze that was started by a resident living there.
After the fire had been extinguished, an investigation revealed that the fire originated in two locations - a bedroom and a kitchen - inside Haskins' apartment. Investigators also learned that flammable liquid was used to start the blaze.
Further investigation revealed that Haskins told a neighbor that he started the blaze intentionally because he was upset with apartment management. Haskins, according to the arrest affidavit, started the fire in retaliation after property managers asked him to stop masturbating in front of an open window where neighbors could see him.
During a police interview, Haskins reportedly told detectives that he wanted to "get back" at property managers because he felt the ban was unfair.
Haskins, who was disfigured after shooting himself in the face with a shotgun several years ago, was booked into jail and charged with arson. He remains held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
