Framingham, Mass. (The Weekly Vice) - David Blanchard, a 21-year-old Massachusetts man, was jailed Friday after he allegedly stole a pair of sneakers, attempted to strangle himself and taunted officers by eating his own feces.
According to Framingham Police, Blanchard was initially arrested after he allegedly stole a pair of sneakers from a Kohl's department store.
After transport to the Framingham police station, Blanchard was allowed a phone call, however, he refused to follow jail protocol by informing the person that he was calling that the conversation would be recorded.
Blanchard became angry when officers disconnected the call, and retaliated by shoving an officer against a wall and then attempting to flee the jail. Another officer was injured during the scrimmage before Blanchard was eventually dog piled by officers and placed into a cell.
Once inside the cell, Blanchard reportedly tried to strangle himself with his own T-shirt. When that didn't work, he attempted to hang himself with it.
When officers entered the cell to retrieve the shirt, Blanchard took a fighting stance and resisted. Two jolts of a Taser brought him into temporary compliance.
Angry that officers had taken his shirt, Blanchard defecated into his hands, smeared feces on a security camera and soiled the walls of his cell. He was then moved to a second cell where he continued to smear feces on the walls of his cell.
When officers moved Blanchard to a third cell, he once again proceeded to soil the walls of his cell. When an officer told Blanchard that his antics weren't going to earn him a trip to the hospital, Blanchard became angrier. That's when he allegedly placed a ball of feces into his mouth and began chewing it.
Blanchard was transported to MetroWest Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. He was cleared a short time later and transported back to his cell at the Framingham Police station.
He was booked into jail and charged with shoplifting, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer and two counts of wanton destruction of property. He also faces numerous charges of assault from an unrelated case involving a disabled person that occurred late last year.
