New Milford, NJ (The Weekly Vice) - Chris Connolly, a 35-year-old New Jersey man, was jailed Friday after he allegedly broke into a couple's home and robbed them as they slept.
According to New Milford police, Connolly broke into a New Milford home sometime between 1 and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and stole several laptop computers, a debit card, passports, jewelry a camcorder and other items while the couple slept in another room.
An investigation was launched when the couple woke up the next morning and realized they had been robbed during the night.
When one of the victims called the bank to report the debit card stolen, she was advised that the card had just been used at a gas station in River Edge and a 7-Eleven store in Hackensack, according to New Milford Police Chief, Frank Papapietro.
Investigators obtained a description of the suspect and the car he was driving which was broadcast to surrounding departments. On Thursday Paramus police reported that a man who matched the suspect's description had been arrested on Dec. 31 for drug possession. The vehicle the suspect was driving was also identified as a spot on match.
When investigators tracked Connolly to his apartment and questioned him, Connolly allegedly confessed to the burglary. Most of the items stolen during the home burglary were recovered along with a small amount of marijuana.
Connolly was booked into jail and charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, credit card theft, theft of legal documents, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
