According to Wheat Ridge Police, officers were dispatched to a local jogging trail after an elderly couple found Harwood and her child suffering from apparent stab wounds.
Investigators say Harwood had been stabbed in the legs, while her child had been stabbed in the stomach.
During a police interview, Harwood told investigators that she was walking along a jogging trail with her child when a 44-year-old convicted sex offender that she was acquainted with jumped from the bushes and attacked her and her child with a knife.
Harwood identified the man, and a warrant was quickly issued for his arrest. Police also asked the public to call 911 if they saw the suspect.
Following a month-long investigation, detectives determined that the alleged suspect had nothing to do with stabbing and that Harwood stabbed her child and herself in an attempt to frame the acquaintance.
She was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Center and charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. Her bond has been set at $100,000.
Incidentally, the previous suspect, 44-year-old Marvin Wilson, is still wanted by police.
A warrant was issued for Wilson's arrest after he failed to register as a sex offender in 2008.
