Nathan Louis Campbell - Man Plows Into Crowds Of People With Car At Venice Boardwalk, 12 Struck

Los Angeles, CA (The Weekly Vice) - Nathan Louis Campbell, a 38-year-old transient from Colorado, has been jailed after he allegedly jumped into his car and then plowed his vehicle through crowds of people at the Venice Boardwalk.

According to Los Angeles police, Campbell was at or near the Candle Cafe and Grill at about 6 p.m. Saturday when he suddenly ran to his car, jumped inside it and punched the gas hard.  Surveillance video shows Campbell rushing to his car and then driving off, squealing his tires in the process.

Campbell's black Dodge Avenger is then captured on video as he weaves his car back and forth across the Venice Boardwalk, crashing into crowds of people, vendor booths, tents,  chairs and anything else that was in his path.

Campbell is seen in a collection of surveillance videos driving his vehicle in a zig-zag motion down the Venice Boardwalk as dozens of people attempted to flee.  Some victims were in their 60's and were unable to run fast enough.

Campbell plowed into or ran over a dozen people total.  Witnesses told police that Campbell intentionally directed his car into the thickest crowds of people that were before him and smoked his tires as he drove over some.

Some Witnesses who successfully avoided Campbell, ran after his Avenger shouting and cursing.

Witness Louisa Hodge described the scene afterwards as "people stumbling around, blood dripping down their legs, looking confused not knowing what had happened. People screaming."

A woman identified as 32-year-old Alice Gruppioni (pictured below) was fatally struck as her new husband sat by her side waiting for first responders. The couple had just been married a few weeks prior and were still on their honey moon at the time.

Ten of the victims were rushed to a local hospital. One victim refused medical care, stating that he didn't want hospital resources going to him when other victims were injured much worse.

At least one person that was hospitalized is reported to be in critical condition. Two others were said to be in serious condition and eight others were treated for minor injuries.

Campbell reportedly surrendered to police a few hours later and was booked into jail on a suspicion of murder charge. Additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues. He remains held on a $1 million bond.
