Alan Stout, Alva Stout, Gregory Stout
According to Phoenix police, an investigation was launched Sunday when officers happened upon a van that contained 13 dirty animal carriers.
Upon closer inspection, officers discovered dozens of malnourished animals inside the animal carriers, which included 22 cats, 12 dogs and a pigeon. As police began to process the scene, a cat died and one of the dogs suffered a seizure.
Investigators then inspected the van which contained the dead body of 73-year-old Lola Stout. The woman's body was reportedly decaying among a van filled with spiders, cockroaches and animal feces.
Officers contacted the woman's two sons - Alan Stout, 42, and Gregory Stout, 44, as well as 79-year-old Alva Stout.
The two sons reportedly told police that their mother died during a trip to Quartzsite, so they placed her body into the van and drove back to Phoenix.
Alva Stout, however, stated that the woman wasn't found dead until the trio reached Phoenix.
All three men were booked into jail and charged with 35 counts of animal abuse. Additional charges are still pending the investigation.
