Chicago, Illinois (The Weekly Vice) - Xavier Guzman, a 25-year-old Illinois man, was jailed Monday after he allegedly shot an innocent stranger because he wasn't allowed to see his child on father's day.
According to Chicago police, Guzman became enraged when his child's mother refused to let him see his child on Father's Day.
In retaliation, Guzman drove to the Douglas Park area, pulled up next to a 21-year-old man and repeatedly fired a handgun at him.
Officers who were patrolling the area heard two shots and were alerted to a white SUV speeding away from the scene. As the officers pursued the vehicle, Guzman was seen tossing .38 caliber handgun out of the vehicle through the driver's side window.
The handgun was recovered and Guzman was arrested after he crashed his SUV.
During a police interview, Guzman told detectives that he didn't know the 21-year-old victim, but shot him anyway because "someone had to pay" after he was refused access to his child.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is recovering from a gunshot wound to his forearm.
Guzman was booked into jail and charged with aggravated battery with a handgun and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
