Silver City, NM (The Weekly Vice) - Genaro "Tito" Marin, a 60-year-old New Mexico man, was jailed Wednesday after he allegedly tore his girlfriend's eye out with a pitchfork during a domestic dispute.
According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched after receiving a 911 call from a witness who stated that a woman had been injured during an apparent domestic dispute.
When dispatchers asked the caller about the woman's condition, he told them that she needed an ambulance and then hung up.
Deputies arrived on the scene to find a woman on the ground with blood covering her face and one eye hanging out from its socket. The woman was able to provide her name before slipping into unconsciousness.
She was immediately flown to an El Paso hospital where she is currently being treated for her injuries.
Deputies tried to interview neighbors about the incident, but most of them were afraid to talk about the incident because they feared retaliation from Marin. They did, however, admit to hearing Marin and the woman arguing before deputies arrived.
When deputies interviewed Marin, he stated that he "hated the fact that (the woman) had done this to herself" and was "going crazy."
When deputies told Marin that they doubted the woman would have injured herself in such a way, he admitted that "she might have made me do something" while gesturing his hands in a stabbing motion.
Deputies did not make an arrest at that time because they were unable to interview the victim until four days later.
During a police interview, the woman stated that she was asking Marin about some money that had gone missing when he suddenly struck her and then stuck her in the eye with a pitchfork.
She also stated that this was not the first time Marin had injured her.
Deputies arrested Marin the next day.
He was booked into the Grant County Detention Center and charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery.
According to court records, Marin has a lengthy arrest record that includes multiple instances of drug trafficking and domestic battery. He remains held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
