Crest Hill, Illinois (The Weekly Vice) - Jerry Nichols, a 62-year-old Illinois man, was jailed Saturday after he allegedly ran over his wife "by accident," then repeatedly stomped on her face to make sure she wouldn't make it to the hospital alive.
According to Crest Hill Police, Nichols called 911 Saturday morning to report that he "accidentally" ran over his 55-year-old wife.
Nichols' version of the so-called "accident" fell apart, however, when paramedics arrived on the scene just in time to witness him stomping on the dying woman's face.
"As emergency personnel approached the scene, the defendant was stomping on the victim's face in the garage," said Asst. State's Attorney, John Connor, during Nichols' bond hearing.
The victim, identified as Diane Nichols, was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time after her arrival. An autopsy later determined that the woman died from multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma.
Nichols was booked into jail and charged with first-degree murder, reckless homicide and aggravated domestic battery. His bond has been at $5 million.
