Altamonte Springs, FL (The Weekly Vice) - Anna Alvarez, a 31-year-old central Florida woman was jailed Friday after she allegedly left her baby alone in her vehicle while she shoplifted cheese from a local grocery store.
According to Altamonte Springs police, employees at a Altamonte Springs Publix grocery store called police after they allegedly saw Alvarez put three packages of cheese inside her purse.
When police questioned Alvarez, they had considered letting her go until she informed them that she had left her 5-month-old baby outside in her car while she was inside the store.
Investigators say officers could hear a baby crying as they approached Alvarez' locked car. The child had no blanket and appeared to be cold. The baby had been left in the vehicle for nearly an hour while Alvarez was shoplifting.
Officers contacted Child Protective Services, and the child was released to the care of the father. Alvarez also has a 3-year-old child who was with a grandmother at the time of the incident.
Alvarez was booked into the Seminole County Jail and charged with child neglect. Her bond was set at $2,000.
