Alexandria Sladon-Marler Jail BookingFort Lauderdale, FL (The Weekly Vice) - Alexandria Sladon-Marler, a 33-year-old Florida woman was jailed Monday after she allegedly stuffed a newborn baby into a pillow and tossed the infant into a motel dumpster.
According to Fort Lauderdale police, an investigation was launched last month when Sladon-Marler arrived at Broward Medical Center and told hospital staffers that she was having complications from an abortion that occurred a few days prior. Doctors determined, however, that Sladon-Marler had given birth recently instead of having an abortion.
Investigators say Sladon-Marler gave birth to a child and then disposed of the body while staying at a local motel. She had reportedly been staying at the motel since June.
Police found the body of a baby boy stuffed inside a pillow and then tossed into the motel's dumpster. An autopsy revealed that the infant was alive at birth.
Florida is a safe haven law state which allows new mothers to drop off infants less than a week old at any safe haven facility without fear of prosecution.
Sladon-Marler was booked into the Broward County Jail and charged with manslaughter and child neglect. Bond has not yet been set in the case.
