Elgrin, Illinois (The Weekly Vice) - Nora Leach Peterson, a 34-year-old Elgrin woman was jailed Saturday after she allegedly used a frying pan to beat her boyfriend to death.
According to the Elgrin Police Department, Peterson and her boyfriend, 55-year-old Michael Mielczarek, were arguing when she struck him with a frying pan and several other items, causing him to fall to the floor and hit his head. The victim then stopped breathing, prompting Peterson to call 911.
Officers arrived on the scene to discover the victim laying unconscious. He was rushed to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy conducted by the Kane County Coroner's Office revealed that blunt force trauma was the cause of death.
Court records show neither Peterson or Mielczarek had any previous domestic violence or battery charges in Kane County. However, in 2008, Peterson's ex-husband filed an emergency order of protection against her, claiming that she physically abused and harassed him, and that she was "mentally cruel."
Peterson was booked into jail on murder charges. She is currently being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on August 29th. If convicted, she could face between 20 and 60 years in prison.
