Port Charlotte, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Jonathan Fontaine, a 32-year-old Florida man was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly stole a television from a local Wal-Mart, then attempted to flee with the merchandise using a bicycle.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a Wal-Mart Security guard called Police around 3 p.m. after Fontaine grabbed a 32-inch television - still in the box - walked out of the store and then attempted to flee on a bicycle.
Investigators say officers spotted Fontaine with the TV while investigating another call. One officer got ahead of Fontaine with his cruiser while another officer chased him on foot. When Fontaine turned around to look at the officer chasing him on foot, he crashed his bike into the other officer's patrol car.
Fontaine was inspected by emergency personnel at the scene and did not require medical attention. Wal-Mart security officers confirmed Fontaine as the suspect in the alleged television theft.
He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail and charged with retail theft and resisting an officer. His bail has been set at $2,000 and his bike was impounded.
