Couple Jailed After Binding And Blindfolding Two Young Children "Because The Children Were Possessed By Demons"

Lawrence, KS (The Weekly Vice) - Adolfo Gomez Jr., 52 and Deborah Gomez, 43, were jailed Wednesday after they allegedly tied up and blindfolded their two youngest children "because they were possessed by demons."

According to police, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a Lawrence Wal-Mart after a customer drove past the couple's vehicle and noticed two young children that had been tied up and blindfolded.

Officers arrived at the location to find two children, bound and blindfolded, standing outside the couple's vehicle. Three additional children were also found at the scene.

Investigators said that the vehicle was parked in the far corner of the parking lot, had clothing covering most of the windows and appeared to be where the family was living at the time.

The first officer who arrived on the scene found a man, now identified as Adolfo Gomez, in the vicinity of the vehicle. When the officer tried to make contact with Gomez, Gomez attempted to flee the officer and lock himself inside the car. The officer was forced to deploy a stun gun to subdue Gomez.

Deborah Gomez, who is believed to be the mother of the children, was shopping inside Wal-Mart when officers arrived.

During questioning, the couple told police that they were traveling from Illinois to Arizona to visit relatives. They stated that they were forced to stop at the Wal-Mart parking lot because their car was experiencing mechanical problems.

When detectives interviewed the couple's two older children, they stated that the family left their home because it had become possessed by demons. The oldest child went on to say that their youngest siblings were tied up and blindfolded because "demons had overtaken their bodies" as well.

Another child stated that her parents had planned to cast the demons out of the children - but that causing the demons to die would mean that the children would also die.

Adolfo and Deborah Gomez Jr. were booked into jail and charged with two counts of child abuse and five counts of aggravated child endangerment.
