Daniel Avery Gives Head Shop A Baseball Bat Beat Down After Son Nearly Dies From Bath Salts

Watertown, New York (The Weekly Vice) - Daniel Avery, a 49-year-old Jefferson County man was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly destroyed a head shop after his son overdosed on baths that were purchased at the specialty store.

According to Waterford police, Avery reportedly entered Tebbs Head Shop when it opened and asked the clerk if they would sell him bath salts.

When the clerk showed Avery a variety of bath salt products that could be purchased, Avery snapped.

Police say Avery used a bat to shatter the shop's front door, a display case, a glass counter top and various merchandise. Avery's rampage finally subsided after he had caused more than $600 in damage.

Investigators say Avery destroyed the store because his son had overdosed on bath salts that he believes was purchased at the store the night before.

Avery's son was rushed to a local hospital , suffering from an erratic heartbeat, complete lack of control of his body, and temporary amnesia. Doctors told the family that their son would have died had they waited just 15 minutes longer before bringing him to the emergency room.

"I have to pay for my actions, that's the way it is, but somebody had to do it," said Avery to a local reporter. "I'm not proud of what I did, but I don't feel bad about it."

Avery was booked into jail and charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal mischief, and misdemeanor second-degree menacing. He was convicted of felony third-degree burglary 30 years ago, which is why the weapon charge was so severe.

Tebb's Head Shop and other stores suspected of selling bath salts in Upstate New York were raided by authorities the next day.
