Shocking Photos Released In Miami Cannibal Case - Victim Ronald Poppo Faces Slow Recovery

Miami, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Disturbing new photographs have been released in the case of the Miami cannibal who was shot dead by police after chewing off half of a homeless man's face.

Doctors have released photographs of the victim, 65-year-old Ronald Poppo, who was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital on May 26 after he was attacked by 31-year-old Rudy Eugene.

Police say Eugene attacked Poppo on Miami's MacArthur Causeway and chewed away half of his face before police could intervene. A police officer who was first on the scene was forced to shoot Eugene multiple times after he refused to stop eating the victim's face.

Poppo was found in a pool of blood with his pants removed and a mutilated face. Eugene was found beside the victim without any clothing.

A witness who passed by the gruesome scene on a bicycle stated that Eugene was "Tearing the victim to pieces with his mouth," before police shot him dead. "The guy just kept eating the other guy away, like ripping his skin," said the witness.

Doctors announced on Tuesday that Poppo is alert and able to walk around, however the injuries he sustained in the attack are substantial.

50% of Poppo's face was eaten away, including his nose and left eye. Doctor's say Poppo's right eye still remains intact, however they are unsure if he will regain his sight. Poppo also suffered a minor brain injury and two broken ribs.

Doctors say Poppo's recovery is "going well" but he will require several more surgeries before he will be a candidate for plastic surgery.

Miami police released a photo of their own which shows the bloody attack scene moments after Rudy Eugene was shot by police (photo below). The photo has not been edited and should be viewed with caution.
