Jessica Vega - Claimed She Was Dying Of Cancer To Con Donors Into Providing Dream Wedding As Dying Wish

White Plains, N.Y. (The Weekly Vice) - Jessica Vega, a 25-year-old New York woman has been indicted after she allegedly faked having cancer in order to con generous donors into providing her a "dream wedding" complete with honeymoon in Aruba.

According to the New York State Attorney General's office, Vega reportedly conned several generous donors into providing her a dream wedding by falsely claiming that she was dying of leukemia.

Vega was arrested in Virginia on April 3, extradited to New York and then arraigned in Orange County Court on Friday.

In 2010, Vega reportedly began telling friends, neighbors and business owners that she was dying of leukemia and only had a few months left to live. She stated that she wanted to marry her baby's father and that a "dream wedding" would be her dying wish.

Word of Vega's misfortune spread and was even picked up by a local newspaper. During the newspaper interview, Vega showed the reporter a letter from her doctor which seemingly confirmed that she was dying of leukemia.

In response to the story, generous donors reached out to Vega to fulfill her wish.

A restaurant in Wallkill provided a reception complete with wine and appetizers, costing the business more than $1,000. A local boutique donated a wedding dress and seamstress while another woman volunteered her make up and hair styling services to Vega and seven bridesmaids.

Two wedding rings, plane tickets, spending money and a time-share in Aruba were also provided to the blushing bride.

Vega and baby-daddy, Michael O'Connell were married in May, 2010, however when the couple divorced, O'Connell stated that he became suspicious about his former wife's claim of having leukemia.

After confirming the so-called doctor's letter had been fabricated, O'Connell reportedly contacted the newspaper and boutique shop owner to let them know they had been duped.

In the investigation that followed, it was discovered that Vega had never been diagnosed with cancer and had allegedly forged the doctor's letter that claimed she was dying of leukemia.

Vega was booked into jail and indicted Tuesday on one count of fraud and five counts of grand larceny and one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

At the time of Vega's arrest, she had recently moved to Virginia to shack up with O'Connell again. O'Connell told local press that his wife need's therapy, not jail time.
