Gainsville, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Barnard Cato III, a 29-year-old Gainsville man was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident, then told police that he left because he had a bad case of "the runs."

According to Gainsville Police, Cato struck another vehicle with his car, then ran over several newspaper boxes before fleeing the scene on foot.  

 

Officers found Cato a short time later at a nearby Walmart store

Investigators say Cato's breath and clothing smelled strongly of alcohol, and his eyes were blood-shot and watery. He refused a breathalyser test, and stated that he didn't realize that he had hit another vehicle.

 

When officers asked why he fled the scene of an accident, he stated that he "had the runs" and needed to get to a restroom immediately.

 

Cato was booked into the Alachua County Jail and charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, a third-degree felony.
