Amanda Clayton - Jailed After Collecting And Using Public Assistance For Months After Winning Million-Dollar Lottery

Lincoln Park, Michigan (The Weekly Vice) - Amanda Clayton, a 25-year-old Lincoln Park woman was jailed Monday after she continued to collect food stamps after winning $1,000,000 on a Michigan Lottery game show.

According to Lincoln Park police, Clayton reportedly won the one million dollar state lottery on a televised game show called "Make Me Rich" in September 2011. She reportedly chose the $700,000 lump sum option and took home more than $500,000 in winnings after taxes.

But despite her fortune, she continued to collect about $5,475 in food and medical assistance from the state until March 2012. She also failed to inform the state that she was employed in 2011 while continuing to receive unemployment benefits.

Clayton told reporters that she was currently unemployed and had no income, and since she had two houses to pay for, she considered herself eligible for state assistance.

Clayton was booked into jail and charged with welfare fraud and failure to inform. She was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Her next court appearance has been scheduled for May 1.
