Glendale, Arizona (The Weekly Vice) - Samuel Navarrette-Mendia, a 35-year-old Glendale man was jailed after he allegedly choked his 6-year-old daughter with a pair of pliers because he caught her reading a book.
According to Glendale police, employees at the child's school contacted police after discovering red welts on the little girl's neck.
The child reportedly told school staff members that her father choked her with a pair of pliers because she was reading a book instead of cleaning.
A child interview specialist was called in to talk to the girl. The child told the specialist that her father had told her that books "were not good for her," and choked her with a pair of pliers until she could not breath.

Investigators say the incident happened inside a storage shed, where no one was around to witness the assault. The child's mother stated that Mendia has a history of abuse, but that it had been directed towards her alone until this point.She stated that she and Mendia argued a lot over his method of parenting and his dislike for books. Mendia denied all accusations.
Mendia was "booked" into jail and charged with one count of child abuse.
