Michael Chavis - Jailed After Using Pit Bull To Punish 5-Year-Old Boy

Lancaster, South Carolina (The Weekly Vice) - Michael Chavis Jr., a 22-year-old Lancaster man was jailed Wednesday after he allegedly dangled a 5-year-old child over an angry pit bull.

According to Lancaster Police, officers were called to the scene of an assault on January 15th around 6:00 p.m.

When officers arrived, a witness stated that Chavis reportedly picked up a young boy and suspended him over an aggressive pit bull that was chained to a tree in the resident's yard. The dog tore off a piece of the boy's shirt, but the child was not injured.

Investigators say Chavis was attempting to punish the boy because he and other children in the neighborhood had kicked dirt at his car. Police do not believe there is any past relationship between Chavis and the victim.

Chavis was booked into jail and charged with 3rd degree assault and battery. He also had an outstanding bench warrant from an incident in December.

Court records show Chavis has been arrested 22 other times for numerous charges, including traffic violations, disorderly conduct, threatening the life of a public official, instigating a riot, resisting arrest, drug charges, discharging a firearm in the city, assault and battery with intent to kill and multiple assault and battery charges.

Anyone with information about this incident or any other crimes involving Chavis is asked to contact the Lancaster Police Department @ (803) 283-1173 or The Anonymous Tip Line @ (803) 289-6040.
