Grandmother Found Driving Get-Away Car During Colorado Burglary

Grand Junction, Colorado (The Weekly Vice) - Barbara Mae West, a 73-year-old Grand Junction senior citizen was jailed after she allegedly operated the getaway vehicle during a recent burglary.

According to Grand Junction Police, an officer was responding to a reported burglary at a local electronics store when he noticed a sport utility vehicle leaving the scene.

The officer turned on his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle's driver refused to stop.

The officer continued to follow the vehicle as it turned down a dead-end street, and then watched two men jump out of it. One of the suspects temporarily got his foot stuck beneath the tire, but he was able to free himself and both men fled the scene.

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle, identified as West, refused to reveal the identities of the two men. She also refused to answer any other questions asked by detectives.

The owner of the SUV, who is one of West's son's ex-wives, stated that she had let West borrow it because she claimed she needed a vehicle to go to church. Approximately $2,000 in stolen electronics was found in the vehicle, along with several bottles of liquor.

West was booked into the Mesa County Jail on charges of vehicular eluding, second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass and theft of between $1,000 and $20,000. She was later freed on $7,500 bond and released to her daughter. The other suspects have not been apprehended.
