Chicago, Ill. (The Weekly Vice) - Six Chicago teens are in custody after a video was posted on YouTube that showed a group of thugs beating and robbing a 17-year-old boy.
According to Chicago Police, a group of at least 6 teens collectively attacked a single 17-year-old boy Sunday and then posted a video of the attack on Facebook. The video has since gone viral on the Internet, setting off a firestorm of anger across the country.
The video shows a group of teens laughing as they take turns stomping and punching the boy repeatedly. The attack continued for 3 minutes until the boy finally broke free of his attackers and ran.
The video also shows the victim bleeding profusely from the mouth and nose while his attackers continue their assault.
Investigators described the attackers as teenage boys of Asian descent, but have declined to release the suspects' names. Several online forums have leaked information about the teens' identities, and threats of retribution against the boys for their attack are numerous.
"It appears to be retaliation for a previous assault," said police spokesperson, Garry McCarthy. "We're confident that we've got the right people in custody. We think that we'll be charging them very shortly."
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
