Round Rock, Texas (The Weekly Vice) - Monica Cantu, a 30-year-old Texas woman was jailed Monday after she allegedly tried to burn off her son's tattoo using a stove-top burner
According to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Cantu didn't like her 13-year-old son's tattoo, so she set in motion a plan to remove it by fire.
According to jail records, the incident occurred back on October 8th and the boy was interviewed by investigators at Children's Advocacy Center on October 19.
Investigators say Cantu first tried to burn her son's tattoo off using a lighter, but the boy stated that his mother's lighter wouldn't stay lit.
She then allegedly placed her son's hand on a heated stove burner, which caused significant burns. The tattoo was reportedly located between the boy's thumb and index finger, according to court records.
During an October 20 interview, Cantu allegedly admitted to trying to burn off her son's tattoo with a lighter, but stated that she ordered her son to burn off his own tattoo with the stove's burner. She told police that he placed his own hand on the burner, causing injury.
She was booked into the Williamson County Jail and charged with injury to a child. She remains jailed in lieu of $7,500 bond.
