Cortland, New York (The Weekly Vice) - Patrick M. Cobane, an 18-year-old Cortland man was jailed Sunday after he reportedly shot a police officer in the face with a BB gun.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to the scene of a domestic dispute around 6:00 p.m..

When officers arrived, Cobane had reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence and was refusing to come out. He stood in the doorway, and held a knife up to his own throat, threatening suicide. New York State Troopers were called to the scene to assist.

Investigators say during the stand-off, Cobane put down a knife and picked up a BB gun. He then fired shots towards police, hitting a state trooper in the face twice.

Officers then forced their way through the door and chased the suspect upstairs, where he was subdued with an officer's Taser and placed under arrest.

The officer who had been shot was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. Two other police officers also sustained minor injuries from broken glass.

Residents inside the home reported that they had previously filed an order of protection against Cobane because of a past physical altercation. Cobane reportedly physically attacked one of the residents again and also damaged a vehicle mirror and a picture frame. A child was present during the incident.

Cobane was booked into the Cortland County Jail and charged with harassment, criminal mischief, criminal contempt, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, prohibited use of a weapon, menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
