87 Year Old Caught With 104 Bricks Of Cocaine - Claims He Was Forced To Transport Narcotics

Chelsea, Michigan (The Weekly Vice) - Leo Sharp, an 87-year-old Indiana man was jailed after he was allegedly caught with 229 pounds of cocaine.

According to Michigan state troopers, Sharp was stopped by an officer after making an illegal lane change.

When the Trooper asked Sharp for permission to search his vehicle, Sharp refused, so a K-9 unit was called in to assist.

Apollo, a drug-sniffing dog, alerted to possible drugs inside the vehicle, which provided probable cause to have the vehicle searched.

Inside the vehicle, officers found
104 brick-sized blocks of cocaine stashed in black bags hidden in the bed if his pickup truck. The drugs have an estimated street value of $3 million.

Investigators say Sharp is married and has children. He is a full-time employee who works for a legitimate horticulture company in Indiana. He also ran a Las Vegas tour company in Detroit in the 1960s.

Sharp was booked into jail and charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. He was released after posting $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 10th. If convicted, he could face 10 years to life in prison.

During his bond hearing, Sharp claimed that he was forced at gunpoint to traffic the drugs. His lawyer immediately intervened, and explained to the judge that this was Sharp's first time at a federal court hearing, so he may be confused on the proceedings.

The lawyer described Sharp as an "eclectic client who found himself in a pretty significant situation. The lawyer also stated that things were "not as they seem", and there was "more to the story to be played out later".
