Newton, Iowa (The Weekly Vice) - Society can now rest easy in the knowledge that a criminal mastermind is now safely behind bars.

Christopher Anspach, a 28-year-old Iowa man was sentenced to 10 days in jail Wednesday for failing to return overdue library books.

According to police, Anspach checked out several items from the Newton Public Library.

Library officials contacted the Newton City Attorney and Newton Police Department after making several attempts to reach Anspach. The value of the checked out items came to a total of $770 according to court documents.

Anspach pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor theft, was fined $625 and ordered to spend ten days in jail. He was booked into the Jasper County Jail to complete his sentence.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

By the way, The Weekly Vice certainly does not underestimate the need to punish those who fail to return hundreds of dollars in library books/media. We just wish the average female teacher who sexually assaults their students would see the inside of a jail a little more often than they do.

Priorities...
