Pensacola, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Elena Rendell, a 17-year-old Florida teen faces manslaughter charges after she allegedly shot her 14-year-old sister to death during an argument over a cell phone.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the family's house Wednesday in response to a reported gunshot victim.
Investigators arrived to the house to discover a 14-year-old girl who had been shot in the neck by her older sister, Rendell.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital while Rendell was taken to a juvenile detention center on aggravated battery charges.
Ten hours later, the 14-year-old sibling died from injuries sustained from the gunshot.
Rendell was in juvenile court for the aggravated battery charge when court officials pulled her aside to deliver the sad news of her sister's death.
Family members broke out in tears as Rendell was brought back into court. She was described as showing little emotion, except to glance occasionally at her sobbing family.
Rendell will be transferred from the Juvenile Detention Center to the Escambia County Jail where she will face an adult charge of manslaughter.
