Somersworth, N.H. (The Weekly Vice) - Matthew Sordiff, a 21-year-old New Hampshire man was jailed Monday after he allegedly stole baby care item from a store - then fled, leaving his 3-month-old daughter behind.

According to police, officers were dispatched after Sordiff entered the Market Basket store on High Street and stole several items including baby formula, baby wipes and Half and Half dairy creamer.

Investigators say Sordiff placed more than $25 worth of items into a diaper bag and attempted to leave the store.

When store employees confronted Sordiff outside the store, Sordiff removed his daughter from a stroller, placed her in a car seat on the ground and then fled the scene on foot.

Brianne Baird, the baby's mother, was reportedly detained inside the store after handing Sordiff the items he placed into the diaper bag.

Sordiff was located and arrested a short time later. He was booked into jail on charges of willful concealment and child endangerment.
