Daytona Beach, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Keyona Davis, a 23-year-old Florida woman was jailed Wednesday after she allegedly placed an eight-month-old baby into a stroller and then loaded the stroller into the bed of a pickup truck for the trip home.
According to Daytona Beach Police, Davis was babysitting an 8-month-old baby for a friend when she decided to go out for a little shopping. After realizing that the truck had no back seat room for a child seat, Davis looked for an alternative.
Police were dispatched after receiving multiple calls from motorists who complained that a woman was transporting a baby in the bed of a truck. At least one motorist video taped the truck as it drove down several streets with a baby stroller in the truck's bed.
During Davis' initial court appearance, she seemed confused as to how the baby stroller's arrangement in the truck would endanger the child.
Her attorney argued during the hearing that the child would have only been in danger had the truck crashed or turned over.
Davis concurred by stating "exactly!"
The judge and the prosecutor pointed out that any sudden movement could have sent the baby and stroller flying, however Davis argued that she "had a grip" on the stroller.
Davis was booked into the Volusia County Jail on a charge of felony child neglect. Her bond has been set at $5,000.
