Southside, Alabama (The Weekly Vice) - Andrew Hank Stabler, an 18-year-old Alabama man was jailed Thursday after he allegedly jumped into the Coosa River while in handcuffs, attempting to escape police.
According to Southside Police, officers were dispatched in response to a noise complaint at a party that Stabler was attending around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found several underage drinkers, including Stabler.
Investigators say Stabler attempted to run, but he was chased by officers, caught, and then placed in handcuffs.
When Stabler complained that the handcuffs were too tight, the officer attempted to loosen them for him. That's when he fled from the officer and jumped into the river as his hands were still bound.
Unable to swim while in handcuffs, he had to be rescued by the officer and another teenager at the party.
Stabler was booked into jail and charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, and felony third-degree escape.
