Midway, Georgia (The Weekly Vice) - Life must be good in Midway, Georgia. Having solved most of the city's serious crime issues, the town's chief of police can focus on those truly heinous acts of lawlessness - like a child's lemonade stand.
According to Midway police, three girls set up a small lemonade stand to fund a trip to a water park. The girls were in their first day of operating the stand when police chief Kelly Morningstar and another officer cruised by and shut them down.
According to Morningstar, the girls needed a business license, peddler's permit and food permit to operate, even on a residential property.
The permits cost $50 a day or $180 per year.
"We have to be consecutive er, consistent on how we enforce laws," said Morningstar. "We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, or what the lemonade was made with. It's the law."
"Kinda crazy that we couldn't sell lemonade," said 14-year-old Casity Dixon. "we had to listen to the cops and shut it down."
The girls are still trying to raise money for their trip to the water park by doing yard work and other chores.
