Michael Burcum - Charged With Seeking Revenge Against Ex-Girlfriend By Placing Black Widow Spider Eggs In Her Mail Box

Brooksville, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Michael R. Burcum, a 65-year-old Brooksville man was jailed after he allegedly harassed an ex-girlfriend by placing black widow spider eggs in her mail box to harass her.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Burcum's ex-girlfriend, 47-year-old Kimberly Sonnenschen, ended their three-week-long relationship back in March. She then reportedly went back to her prior boyfriend, 52-year-old Stephen Boyce.

Investigators Burcum began harassing the couple by sending them both harassing letters. He also attempted to gain access to Boyce's social security number.

Things became dangerous when Burcum, who raises black widows as a hobby, placed a sack of black widow spider eggs inside his ex-girlfriend's mailbox. The eggs were discovered when Boyce retrieved the mail one day to discover that the spiders had hatched.

After that incident, Burcum continued to send the couple more letters and emails, even posting several notes on trash cans in front of Boyce's place of employment.

When officers asked Burcum why he was stalking the couple, he stated that they were "talking bad about him" and "discrediting his integrity". He stated that he would not stop harassing the couple until he received an apology from them.

Burcum was booked into the Hernando County Jail and charged with two counts of stalking. He was released after posting $1,000 bail.
