Chandler, Arizona (The Weekly Vice) - Johnny Salazar, a 26-year-old Arizona man was jailed Sunday after he allegedly burned his son's hand and wrist after the child "touched his bible."
According to police, Salazar was watching his two sons (ages 2 and 5) at his parent's home when he used a Zippo lighter to burn his five-year-old son's hand and wrist.
When Salazar's parents returned home from church and saw the red blisters on their grandson's hand, they asked Salazar what happened.
Salazar reportedly told them that he used a cigarette lighter to burn his son because the boy had touched his bible in a disrespectful manner.
Salazar then reportedly picked up his 2-year-old son and left the residence in his truck. He was later stopped by police and taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, police found Salazar in possession of a 14-inch knife, a handgun, powdered bath salts, Xanax and other prescription drugs.
Salazar's parents told investigators that their son had turned to drugs after a recent break-up with his girlfriend.
Salazar was booked into the 4th Avenue jail on a charge of child abuse. His bond has been set at $90,000.
