Modesto, California (The Weekly Vice) - Tiffany Lyon, 27, and Chasity Doll, 20, were jailed after they allegedly solicited donations for a baby's funeral until police discovered that the baby didn't exist.
According to Modesto police, both woman stood roadside near an area mall holding up a poster that showed a photograph of a baby with the words "Funeral Donations" written in bold letters.
Below the photograph, the poster showed the baby's name along with dates for the baby's birth and death.
The women reportedly stalled traffic while collecting the donations - which attracted police attention. When an officer asked the women what they were up to, Lyons stated that the baby was hers and that the girls were collecting funeral donations.
When the officer asked them the baby's date of birth and when the child died, neither woman was able to answer the question.
After coroner's officials confirmed that Lyon did not have a deceased child, both women were apprehended. At the time of their arrest, they were carrying a purse that contained about $640 in cash.
Lyon and Doll were booked into jail and charged with conspiracy to defraud the public taking money under false pretense and lying to police about their identities.
