Columbia, South Carolina (The Weekly Vice) - Stephanie Green, a 37-year-old Campobello woman was jailed after her infant daughter died from a lethal dose of morphine - allegedly fed to her through Green's breast milk.
According to Columbia police, Green's 6-week-old daughter was found dead in her parent's bed last November. An autopsy showed that the infant had high levels of morphine in her system at the time of her death.
Investigators determined that Green had consistently been using morphine patches and pills the entire time she was breast-feeding her child. She had illegally obtained the drugs at least 38 times in less than two years.
Green was booked into the Spartanburg Detention Center and charged with homicide by child abuse. She remains jailed and is awaiting a bond hearing.
