Houston, Texas (The Weekly Vice) - Hope Adele Askew, a 42-year-old Houston woman was jailed Tuesday after she allegedly burned her 10-year-old daughter's face with a hot iron because the child wasn't reading words in a book correctly.
According to Houston Police, the child's school contacted Children’s Protective Services in April after the girl came to school with a large burn on her face.
Askew told the school that the girl's burn was caused by a hot skillet, however, police investigated anyway.
The child told detectives that she had been reading a book April 11th as her mother ironed clothes. When the girl read some of the words incorrectly, Askew retaliated by burning the girl twice on the face with the heated iron.
The child suffered large iron-shaped burns on the side of her face. The mother also never sought medical care for her daughter's burns.
Askew was booked into jail and was charged with injury to a child. She was freed after posting $10,000 bond.
