Captain Pooler To The Rescue! Yeah, Well, Not Exactly

Boynton Beach, FL (The Weekly Vice) - Timothy Pooler, a 63-year-old tow boat captain was charged with boating under the influence when he attempted to rescue a pair of stranded boaters - but ended up towing them in circles for hours.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Pooler was dispatched Thursday afternoon to assist two men whose boat had broken down about 25 miles from Delray Beach.

Investigators say Pooler arrived at the stranded boat's location several hours later than he should have arrived. After connecting the boats together, Pooler then towed the stranded boat in circles for hours.... and hours.

When the sun began to come up the next morning, Pooler finally relented and asked one of the men to drive the tow boat. Shortly after the men commandeered the tow boat, it ran out of fuel.

Because the stranded boat's engine had cooled down, the men were able to get it started again, and ended up towing Pooler's boat for a distance until the engine failed once more. That's when two new boats were dispatched to tow both of the stranded boats back to shore.

All four boats arrived back at harbor at about 9 a.m. Friday morning.

Pooler was charged with boating under the influence after admitting to FWC officers that he had consumed alcohol prior to his shift. He also reportedly admitted to using several prescription medications.
