Hialeah, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Savannah Sholter, 21, and Vincent Collins, 25, were arrested Monday after police allegedly found their emaciated two-year-old son abandoned in a motel room with feces embedded in his skin, a stack of dirty diapers three feet high and a dead cat.

According to Hialeah police, officers were dispatched to to the Rainbow Motel Sunday after Sholter called to report that her son had stopped breathing. Paramedics arrived to find the toddler unconscious - covered with fecal matter that was embedded into his skin and lesions that covered his back.

To make matters worse, the child required a feeding tube and weighed just 15 pounds (half the normal weight of a 2 1/2 year old child). He also had toe nails that were so long, it appeared they had never been cut.

"He looked like a concentration camp victim from the World War II documentaries that we see," said Carl Zogby of the Hialeah Police Department. "Diapers that were 3 feet high; Stacked up soiled diapers, urine, dead animals and live animals in the room."

Collins and Sholter, however, had rented a separate room down the hall where they lived with a second, healthy child.

Motel staff told police they tried to get into the room to clean it, but the couple told them not to enter the room.

Collins and Sholter were booked into jail on one count of child neglect. Bond was set at $7,500.
