Kathlyn Anthony - Jailed After Forcing Son To Sleep In Locked Animal Carrier As Punishment For "Behavioral Problems"

Old Saybrook, Connecticut (The Weekly Vice) - Kathlyn (Katy) Anthony, a 54-year-old Connecticut woman was jailed Sunday after she allegedly punished her son by forcing him to sleep in a dog crate over a two week period.

According to police, an investigation was launched back in December after the boy's sister told a teacher that she was tired because she kept having to get up at night to let her brother out of his "sleep locker."

Detectives learned that the "sleep locker" in question was actually a 30-inch by 36-inch animal carrier that the family had previously used to house a litter of kittens.

Investigators say Anthony forced her son to sleep in the crate over a two-week period as punishment for wetting the bed and/or acting out. Anthony also reportedly forced the boy to take cold showers and remain downstairs in a cold basement so that neighbors wouldn't be alarmed by his cries for help.

The boy's sister told police that her brother would be locked inside the crate so that he couldn't get out and that at some point she began locking him in at night because her "mother got tired of doing it."

Sgt. Kevin Roche stated that Anthony chose the crate as a mode of punishment because she believed the crate had "good memories" for both children because of the litter of kittens it was previously used for.

Anthony was booked into jail on a charge of risk of injury to a child. She was released after posting a $100,000 bond.

According to DCF workers, the boy's disposition improved the next day after being removed from the home and the boy's principal reported that he was having a great week at school.
