Eric Persaud - Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison After Repeatedly Burning Then Slashing Girlfriend's Face

Queens, New York (The Weekly Vice) - Eric Persaud, a 36-year-old Queens man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after he allegedly ironed and then slashed his girlfriend's face after she called police for help.

According to Queens police, Persaud became angry April 30th, 2009, after learning that his girlfriend had contacted police when he smashed her cell phone and then broke a lamp.

Persaud retaliated by telling the woman that he would have to scar her for what she had done. He allegedly led her to a bedroom, shoved a towel into her mouth and threatened that if she screamed, he would have to burn the children as well.

Persaud initially demanded that the woman burn her own face with a hot iron that had been heating up. When she refused, Persaud forced the woman to kneel before placing the hot iron against both sides of her face.

After deciding that the burns were not intense enough, he allegedly forced the woman to turn up the heat before pressing the iron to her face a second and third time.

When he was done burning her, he allegedly grabbed a razor blade from the bathroom and began slashing her face while shouting "I'm going to cut open your entire face."

When Persaud left the couple's apartment the next day, the woman reportedly went to a hospital where she spent the next 11 days in treatment.

Persaud was arrested and booked into Rikers Island Prison on charges of first and second degree assault, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. While he was detained, he reportedly called the victim at least 437 times begging her not to testify against him.

"I need you to prepare the kids to start lying," he allegedly stated over a phone at Rikers. "I'm smarter than you, I need you right now in my corner."

In May of 2010 Persaud was indicted on ten criminal counts that included tampering with a witness, bribing a witness, criminal contempt and intimidating a witness.

On March 18th, 2011, Persaud was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to the charges last month.
