Jeffersonville, Indiana (The Weekly Vice) - Dontas R. Marshall, a 41-year-old Indiana inmate is facing additional charges after he allegedly attempted to sneak marijuana into jail by having it sewn into his boxer shorts.
According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Marshall was sentenced to 5-10 years in jail and 5 years probation after he was found guilty of possessing cocaine within 100 feet of a school, a class B felony. An additional charge of distributing marijuana was dropped as part of a plea agreement. He taken to Clark County Jail.
Investigators say the next day, officers discovered that Marshall smelled like marijuana. They conducted a pat-down search and found nothing, but noticed that he was clenching his buttocks as if he was hiding something. Police warned Marshall that if he had anything in his possession, he would not be charged if he gave it up willingly.
At first, Marshall denied having anything, but as officers prepared to do a strip search he admitted that he had a joint in his boxers, then removed them. Officers used a knife to open the seam of the boxers and found 15 marijuana cigarettes.
Despite being told he would not be charged, officers had to report it due to the amount of marijuana they found. Marshall stated that his wife had sewn "joints" into his boxers for him, but he was unaware of the amount.
Marshall remains at the Clark County Jail. On Wednesday, he was additionally charged with class C felony trafficking with an inmate and class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He faces an additional two to nine years in prison for those charges.
