Angela Boyd - Jailed After Faking Daughter’s Brutal Death To Support Alleged Drug Habit

Richmond, Indiana (The Weekly Vice) - Angela J. Boyd, a 38-year-old Richmond woman has now been formally charged after she allegedly faked the death of her 15-year-old daughter last month.

According to the Richmond Police Department, Boyd arranged to have a funeral for her daughter, who she stated had been brutally raped and murdered by her father in Iowa.

The service was scheduled for November 9th, at New Life Ministries Church of the Nazarene. The church gathered a collection plate two days before the funeral, and brought an additional collection jar to the service, all for the memory of Boyd's daughter.

Investigators say Boyd gave a heart-wrenching speech during the funeral, and had everyone fooled until her brother told the congregation that in fact the child was still alive in Iowa. Boyd fled the scene, leaving all the cash that had been collected behind. She later turned herself in to police.

"When I said, 'My niece is alive', it was like the needle on a record, you know, and everybody looked at me and they all thought I was crazy," said Boyd's brother, Brian LeMaster. "Everybody was just blown away, you know, and she talked about how it happened, how she was gonna miss her child, never see her smiling face, never see her have children and on and on."

Brian says his sister faked the funeral to support a drug habit.

Boyd was booked into jail and charged with attempted theft, a class D felony. Her bond was set at $15,000. If convicted, she could face six months to three years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

Boyd had two previous theft charges, which she filed plea agreements on. Because of this latest theft charge, her plea agreements have been revoked She faces trial at 9:00 a.m. on March 15th, 2011.
