Greenville, South Carolina (The Weely Vice) - Angel A. Gilliland, 31, and Alberto Rodriquez-Carrera, 42, were jailed Tuesday after they allegedly padlocked their children inside a mobile home, which caught on fire while the children were left alone.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, firefighters responded to a fire at the family's home around 9:00 a.m Tuesday. When emergency crews arrived, deputies found three children (ages 9, 13 and 16) who had been padlocked inside the home when a fire started inside. The children managed to escape the residence after breaking a window and climbing out through it.
The door to the motor home had been padlocked from the outside when the children's mother left to take her husband to work. The children were treated at a local hospital for minor cuts, bruises and smoke inhalation and have been placed in the custody of Social Services.
Gilliland and Rodriquez-Carrera were booked into jail and charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian. Bond has been set at $60,000 each.
