Jack Duke Sent His Children To Cannabis University

Grand Junction, Colorado (The Weekly Vice) - Jack Duke, a 27-year-old Grand Junction man was jailed after he allegedly allowed and even encouraged his six and seven-year-old daughters to smoke marijuana.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, officers were contacted on September 24th after the 6-year-old was caught in the school bathroom with a bic lighter and some toilet paper, attempting to start a fire.

The child told authorities that when she doesn't feel good, her father would smoke "weed" with her, and blow it in her face.

She then when into great detail about her smoking techniques, and how she doesn't like to smoke the seeds. The girl also drew pictures of her father holding a pipe and bong. Authorities say the girl knew more about smoking marijuana than most adults.

Investigators say that when questioned by detectives, Duke and his wife admitted to smoking marijuana. Mr. Duke also admitted to smoking it with his daughter because she was "puking", and he had done this on numerous occasions with both of his daughters over the last two years. He stated that he would load the pipe for them, and helped them light it. He also admitted to blowing it in their faces 4-5 times over the last month, and allowed them to smoke from a "blunt."

Mrs. Duke allowed detectives to search their home. Police recovered a small marijuana pipe, two larger pipes commonly referred to as "bongs," a digital scale, and a small bag of marijuana, all accessible to the children. Officers also noted that the home was in extreme disarray, with dirty diapers piled up next to the toilet, soiled clothes strewn about, and an approximately 5-foot long boa constrictor in a cage next to a bed in the childrens' room. The two girls and two other siblings were placed in protective custody, and are now living with their grandparents.

Duke was booked into jail and charged with distribution of marijuana to a child under fifteen, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of child abuse or neglect without injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. He is being held on $500,000 bond. If convicted, he faces a mandatory sentence of 36 years or more in prison.

Duke is considered a habitual offender because of prior convictions, which include a second-degree sexual assault out of Utah in 2004 and a first-degree trespass of an auto out of Colorado in 2001. He also has a pending charge from 2009 for failing to register as a sex offender.
