Marie St. Armond Abandoned Her Kids For Food Stamps

Orlando, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Marie St. Armond, a 31-year-old Orlando woman was jailed Tuesday after she allegedly left her five young children at home alone while she went to apply for food stamps.

According to Orange County police, a neighbor called 911 around 4:30 p.m. after St. Armond's children (which included a 4-month old infant) were seen banging on their apartment door, sweaty and crying.

The neighbor told police the children stated that they had been locked out of the home and didn't know where their mother had gone.

Investigators say St. Armond left her eldest child, an 11-year-old girl, in charge of her four siblings while she went to the library to apply for food stamps.

St. Armond left her children alone around 3:00 p.m. and did not return home until after 6:00 p.m.

Deputies attempted to contact the children's father, Pierre Dauphin, at 5:15. He stated that he was not aware that his children were at home alone and had no idea where St. Armond was. Police later determined that this information was false. He also claimed that he would be returning home shortly, but did not show up until after 7:00.

St. Armond was booked into the Orange County Jail and charged with aggravated child abuse. She is being held on a $2,500 bond.

Dauphin also had charges filed against him for child neglect and lying to deputies about where St. Armond was located.

The Department of Children and Families investigated the family, but allowed the children to remain with their father.
