According to Melbourne police, Jones and his accomplice were caught on surveillance camera breaking into a local pet store, where they made off with a lizard and a 5-foot python.
Police arrested the men a short time later after they were found in a McDonalds restaurant parking lot struggling to keep control of the snake. The lizard apparently escaped captivity and is currently on the lam.
The python, now identified as an eight-year-old black head python named Boris, has been returned to it's owners.
Jones was arraigned on charges of theft, trespass and receiving stolen goods. His accomplice has reportedly been released on bail and will answer charges at a later date.
