Sumter, South Carolina (The Weekly Vice) - Alison Alsbrooks Scurry, a 31-year-old Sumter County woman was jailed after she was allegedly found to be raising her three kids in a home filled with almost a foot of garbage.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Scurry's home after they received an anonymous tip that her children, ages eight, nine, and ten, were reportedly being neglected and were living in filth.
Investigators say when police entered the home, they found a pile of debris approximately 10-12 inches high, including rotting food, clothes, toys, and other household items.
When asked why her house was so dirty, Scurry basically stated that she was overwhelmed as a single parent and was trying to work and keep her home life under control.
The children were reportedly found in good health. The oldest child is living with a relative and the younger two are in foster care.
Scurry was booked into jail and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 1st.
