Terre Haute, Indiana (The Weekly Vice) - Tonya Smith, a 37-year-old Terra Haute woman, was jailed after she allegedly left her three children home alone while she went to a theme park in another state.
Authorities say they were contacted by a concerned neighbor who noticed Smith's three children alone with out supervision.
When officers arrived to check on the situation, they found two of the children aged 12 and 7 at the home when the ten year old rode up on his bicycle, reports say.
According to police, the home had no running water or food, all of the children had head lice, there was dog feces smeared on the floor, a rodent was seen in the home, and one of the children reported that they had stepped on a nail.
The children allegedly told officers that their mother had left at 6am to go to Holiday World and Splashin' Safari.
When contacted by officers, Smith allegedly explained that the children were supposed to be staying with a relative while she was away.
A warrant was issued for Smith's arrest and she has been formally charged in Vigo Superior Court.
Smith was booked in the Vigo County Jail with three class d felony counts of child neglect. Her bond has been set at $45,000 with no option for 10% bail.
