Mark And Debra Tucker - Charged With Turning Family Home Into Marijuana Grow House

Memphis, Tennessee (The Weekly Vice) - Mark Tucker, 46, and his wife Debra Tucker, 41, were jailed Tuesday after they allegedly turned their home into a marijuana grow house - even using their children's bedrooms to nurture pot plants.

According to police, officers were called to the couple's home, in a quiet suburban neighborhood, after their 2-year-old boy was allegedly seen playing alone in the street around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Detectives found the missing toddler, then searched the couple's home, where they reportedly found a total of 29 marijuana plants growing in their 14-year-old son's and 11-year-old daughter's bedrooms. Detectives also found nearly a pound-and-a-half of pot in the freezer, contained in several plastic bags, and 10 stalks from an apparent recent harvest.

Investigators say Mr. Tucker admitted that since early 2010, he had been using his son's room for a "starter room", and his daughter's closet was the "finishing or budding room". He also told investigators that he had smoked marijuana with his children present. Mrs. Tucker stated that she knew the marijuana plants were growing in the house, but told police she did not know about health hazards to the children that include mold and fire hazards.

The Tuckers were booked into the Shelby County Jail and were both charged with child abuse and neglect and with two counts of possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture, deliver or sell. Mr. Tucker was also charged with abuse and neglect of a child under 6 years old and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Their children are now in the care of relatives. The Department of Children’s Services is investigating the case.
